The Gao Lab at Tulane
At the intersection of chemistry, biology, and engineering, the Gao Lab focuses on discovering and engineering proteins for transformative applications in medicine, pharmaceuticals, and sustainable chemical manufacturing. Another key area of our research involves studying disease-relevant proteins to uncover how protein–protein and protein–small molecule interactions drive disease mechanisms. These insights enable the rational design of next-generation protein-based therapeutics and diagnostics.
Integrated Platform for Protein Engineering & Mechanistic Biophysics
Our laboratory integrates enzyme engineering, quantitative kinetics, computational modeling, HDX-MS, and high-resolution biophysical methods to uncover and reprogram protein function.
